Evils Of the Earth

“there bodies were covered with scars,
No god could ever cure.”

by Muhammed Sajid

In a country,
A rope was tied,
Across the neck of one of its citizen.
On one end, hunger;
And on the other, morality.
He was killed, hanging.
And beside him,
the sculpture of a god was fed milk.

In a country,
There was an intelligent boy.
He lived collecting waste,
Few educated ones threw on the road.
And some random boys
who never wanted to learn;
Went to school, wearing a tie.
Lives shattered when only class mattered.

In a country,
Where goddesses are praised for their beauty,
Two minor goddesses were seen
Hanged on a tree.
But, under a close examination,
there bodies were covered with scars,
No god could ever cure.

In a country,
A couple held their hands, tight.
Few from the higher caste
drifted them away.
So drifted them that,
They never saw each other, again.
Because,
one remained in the earth and
The other was sent to heaven.

In a country,
A cornerstone was set for one.
Over a piece of land:
Known to have owned,
By two religions.
It fell on the citizens,
Of the very secular country, it is called.
And the country, died inside.

She Never Lived Again

But I saw that she never lived again,
She never bloomed again!

by Muhammed Sajid

The first thing
my father did,
When I was born,
Was to plant a tree,
A Mahogany tree.

I grew up listening to this line:
“I will marry her off with the money I get,
Selling this tree.”

Then one day,
She was cut down.
And after a week or so,
I was married off.

Two years later,
When my husband graciously let me,
Visit my house for once;
I ran,
Forgetting that she was killed, for me,
For them to send me away,
I ran towards her.

When I was a child,
I used to spend most of my time,
Under the shade of her branches, ,
Telling her all my secrets.
She was my best friend.

I wanted to tell her how I do,
I wanted to tell her all I had to go through,
But I saw that she never lived again,
She never bloomed again!
Just like me.
I was dead inside, too.
